About the Leasor (Landowners' Fishing Rights Union)

The landowners around the rivers Miðfjarðará and Litla-Kverká have formed a Landowners' Fishing Rights Union, as is required by the Act on Salmon- and Trout Fishing, no. 61/2006. The role of the Union is i.a. to oversee that laws and regulation, including the Union's own bylaws, regarding fishing management and methods of fishing is adhered to, taking necessary measures to ensure fish stocks thrive in the area, ensuring growth and development of the fish stocks in the area and that their utilization is self-sustainable, to divide dividends from fishing between landowners according to their rights, to allocate the right to angling in the fishing district in whole or part, according to the best interests of the membes of the Fishing Rights Union, although always according to the aim and purpose of the Act on Salmon- and Trout Fishing, regarding self-sunstainable utilization of fishing stocks, and to otherwise oversee any obilgations and tasks, which the Union may have according to law.

The members of the Union are the owners of the five farms around the rivers. These are the farms Kverkártunga, Miðfjarðarnessel, Miðfjörður I, Miðfjörður II and Melavellir. All but Miðfjörður II are deserted. The following individuals form the board of directors of the Union:
